Fishing With Gramps

Nothing is better than being able to spend time with your Grandfather.  Canyon is so lucky to have a Grandpa that takes the time to spend quality time with him.  Grandpa loves to teach him things and just spending time to listen to him tell about his day and what is bothering him.  Right now with his Daddy in Bahrain, Gramps spends as much time as he can with him letting him have the male companionship that he is missing with his Dad..  They are so close and enjoys being with each other.

Logan Summerfest...(repost)

GOOD TIMES, GOOD FOOD!!!
We could not keep up with the hot dog orders, 790 to be exact were sold in the three days.  Took three of us just to keep up with the machine and orders.  What a wild ride!!!  At one point on Friday, I was in "charge" of the dog station and at the same moment ran out of dogs, chili, buns and cheese.  In desperation I yelled out "I could really use some help about now" and Wendy and Ta'Mera came running to my rescue.  It was so hectic trying to nuke dogs, chili and cheese to get back into serving again.  Next time we are taking two microwave ovens to keep up.  Saturday was better as we loaded the hotdog machine up with 100 dogs and kept it stocked all day.
Can't wait till next year.

Turn That Thing.....

Turn that thing....

Or......

YOU WILL BE SEEN!!!!!!

Most embarrassing moment of Logan Summerfest is not locking the porta potty and having a MALE stranger opening the door and exposing me to the world.  Yes my pants were down around my knees, my garments flashing and I was sitting on the potty doing my things.

MY BIG 60TH BDAY

Tonight we went to Texas Roadhouse for my birthday dinner and had the time of our lives.  It is so fun to go there and it really is my favorite place to eat.  I never tire of going there.  We took the cake that Dick bought and had a royal celebration.  When it was time for dessert, they brought out the saddle and wanted me to sit on it, but no way would that hold up this body so Canyon and Evan sat on it.  I was given an ice cream sunday, which was enjoyed by the two little ones.  Our waitress was the cutest little gal I have ever met and she made the time there so fun.
Today has been a wonderful day and I have gotten to talk with all the people that I love the very most.  There have been many well wishes on facebook that were appreciated so very much.  I have received some very wonderful gifts that I am so excited about.  Thanks to all that took the time out of your day to remember me.  That really made me feel special.
I am truly blessed and have the best family ever.  I come from a fantastic hereitage which has made me the person that I am. I love the person that I have become.  Hey I have been on this earth for 60 years and have had some amazing experiences and hope that here are many more birthdays for me.
I AM A BLESSED WOMAN!!!!!

Derek

Well my son, your birthday was yesterday and since you decided to have another birthday in another country we did not get to talk with you and wish you happy birthday so I will have to do it on this blog.
Here goes:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR DEREK, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!

I do miss you very much and can hardly wait for you to return to our land.  You are loved so very much and we are so proud of all the things that you have accomplished in life.  Thanks for all the joy that you have brought into our lives and the laughter that we have been able to share.   Thanks for giving us two beautiful grandchildren and yes we are really spoiling them terribly while you are gone.  If you thought they were bad before you left, think again, because they are worse.  That is what you get for leaving us in charge of taking care of you little tribe.  Remember that we love you always and that you are in our prayers constantly.
Hope that your birthday was good and we will celebrate when you get home.  Love you so very much.

The Bear Facts...

While we were on our camping trip something so funny happened that I wanted to share.  I laughed so hard and everytime I go to retell the story I about split a gut.
Evan was sitting on the floor by the door and Gramps had to go outside.  He stepped over her and stepped down to get out.  As he was stepping to the ground he needed extra go power and let a little toot.  Evan was so insulted and had that stinky eye look of hers and said "Grandpa, you farted in my face".

Mayhem on the street

Last night we were watching Avatar when all of a sudden there were lights flashing out on the street in front of our house.  I was holding Evan (she was asleep) and threw her in the chair as I went running out the door.  To our surprise there were cop cars all over, four fire trucks and an ambulance in front of our neighbors house. We watched as they put out a fire that had started in the camper.  It was real scary as we watched the firemen at work putting out the fire.

Thank heavens no one was inside and all the children and parents are safe, no cars were damaged and the house did not catch on fire.  They are saying that a space heater must have been left on and shorted out causing the fire.  The camper is a total loss.

Evan's Graduation

Evan had her preschool graduation and it was so fun.  Her Grandma Gayle was here from Australia and got to have Dirt and Worms for a treat.
YUMMY!!!!

First Camping Trip of the year!!

We had a few days off before our next event and decided that it would be good to take Canyon and Evan on a fishing/camping trip.  We went to Hyrum State Park and had a blast.  We did not catch any fish but the camping was excellent and we want to go back again soon.
Canyon and Evan cooling off at the lake

These are the only fish that we caught.

Playing in the indian soap at the boat ramp

Practicing her casting

We had lots of laughs having these two with us.  Canyon was riding his bike at the boat ramp and decided to ride into the water.  The water started rising on his bike wheel, his eyes got large, he turned the wheel and just jumped off and ran back to shore.  It happened so fast that I could not warn him that the ramp sloped down into the water.  I thought I was going to split a gut laughing at him.
The next day we were on a nature hike and came to a huge drop off into the lake.  He decided that he wanted to go down to the lake and I told him not to that it was to steep for him to get back up.  If you know Canyon, telling him not to do it was an invitation for him to do it anyway.  He sat on the side of the drop off and his flip flop went sliding to the bottom (about 10 feet or more down).  He slid down on his butt to get the shoe and then could not get back up.  Gramps was looking for a long stick to hold down to him but could not find one.  I was just getting ready to run back to the camper to get a rope to help pull him up with when he finally got enough footing to get up to where I could grab his arm and pull him up.  Needless to say, he did learn a lesson about listening to Grandma (the wise one).
This was a fun trip for us and Evan's first camping trip in the camper.  The best part was having her own toilet and not having to sit on a log like when she goes camping with her Daddy.
We made S'mores and roasted marshmellows too.  We want to go again soon.

Kelly Ann

We were working on Kelly's birthday and so we celebrated it on Monday
It took three people to put all the candles on the cake

Gramps does a good job trying to light the candles.  The funniest thing was him and Kelly lit the candles on the outside then burned themselves trying to light the inside ones.  They are just to funny.  Richard called just as we were ready to sing happy birthday so he sang with us.  That was special.
Kelly, we do love you so very much and are so thankful that you are part of our family.  You have brought so much joy to my life and we are so thankful that our son brought you into our circle.  Thanks for the beautiful grandchildren that has blessed our home.  May your dreams all be silver lined and that the Lord will guide and direct you alway.  Thanks for being that special daughter in my life.  I love you!!

Memorial Day Weekend

We got to spend the Memorial Day weekend in Ephriam, Utah.  This is where Grandpa Leon Madsen was born and raised.  On Sunday morning before we left to come  back home, we went to the cemetery and visited the graves of our family that has passed away.

Canyon and Evan got to see where their great great grandparents Daniel Fredrick and Mary Annie Rasmussen Madsen were buried.  It is always fun to go visit family where the dead people live (this is what Meghan used to call the cemeteries)
This is Uncle Glen and Aunt Eudora's graves.  Aunt Eudora and Grandpa Leon died one day apart and were the last of the Madsen siblings to die.  We always said that Grandpa went first then waited for Aunt Eudora and took her hand and together they went to heaven to meet the rest of their family.
This is Aunt Eudora's baby Louise that died just shortly after she was born.

We don't know these people, but Evan thought she should have her picture taken at this headstone.  She thought it would be cool.
We also went to visit Uncle Ray Madsen.  When we got to his grave his son Steven and wife Judy were there placing flowers on his parents graves.  We got to visit with them for a short time and then we left to go back home.
It was a very fun weekend and it is always fun to go to Ephriam for the Scandinavian Days celebration.  We sold tons of funnel cakes, fried twinkies, fried oreos and fried coke.  Thanks Kelly, Canyon, Evan and Aunt Verdell for coming to help us.
