Happy 101st Birthday Grandpa Harvey

On February 15, 1908 Julius N. Harvey and his twin Julia were born. Julia only lived a few days but Julius lived until June 1992. He married Louise Johnson and together they had 10 children which in turn produced many, many grandchildren. I was the first grandchild to be born into this family and have thanked Heavenly Father daily for the heritage that I was blessed with. Many of my cousins are years younger than I am and several of them refer to me as "Aunt Kathy". It is hard for them to comprehend that even though my children are their ages I am still only a "cousin".

I remember my last real event with Grandpa which occurred on February 15, 1989 and his mind was still very sharp and clear. We were living in Page, AZ and Dick had to go to St. George for surgery. I stayed with Grandpa and Grandma while he was in the hospital. On Grandpa's birthday we all got ready and went to the temple to celebrate his day. It was a joyous event sitting in the temple with my grandparents on this glorious day. I could feel the love of my Father in Heaven so strong and also the love of my wonderful grandparents.
Grandpa was always a very hard worker. I remember the farming he did and the big equipment that he let us play on when it was not being used for harvesting. We loved to go to Horsehead to visit them and one favorite thing to do was to go into the trees next to their house where we made pretend houses under the shade. We would take sticks and draw out our houses and the rooms inside then play for hours under those trees. I could stay there forever with Grandpa and Grandma.
My love for popcorn was inherited from Grandpa. No matter when I went, there was always a bowl of popcorn waiting for me to gobble down. Mom said that when I was just learning to toddle and talk, she would take me to Grandpa's and my first words were "poncon" and they would pop the corn for me. For one Christmas I even got my own huge bag of popcorn, probably my most cherished gift for a girl of 10. Must have been pretty impressive as it is the one gift that I remember getting from my Harvey grandparents.
Tomorrow, Dear Grandpa, my thoughts will be of you. Thanks for your loving and caring ways, but most of all for the great examples that were set for your children and grandchildren to follow. I miss you very much and know that the day will come when I can be wrapped in your arms again. Thanks for showing me the way when my life is struggling. I love you with all my heart. Have a great 101st birthday.
Love from your granddaughter,
Kathy

An Evening With Brook

PAYTON RILEY CURRY - 1 DAY OLD
Tonight Elton came home early so I could go to the hospital to spend some time with Brook and Payton. What a joy it was to sit there for 2 1/2 hours just holding Payton while she slept. She is so tiny and adorable. One seems to forget just how tiny newborns are and I think she is tinier than any other baby born in our family so far. Her complexion is so clear and rosy and she has tons of black hair. Her hands and fingers are just like Brook's all tiny and cute. She even opened her eyes before I left and can you believe that I was lucky enough to have my camera ready to snap.
I have missed Brook so much and it was wonderful to be able to sit and talk with her and just chit chat about nothing really. Just hearing her voice and seeing pure happiness on her face and in her eyes is all a mother needs.
I have had so much fun with Nolan, Brea and Hayden today. We all took a long nap this afternoon, which gave me the extra boost that I needed.
Here are some pix of today adventures:

Hayden is always smiling and laughing

Brea's favorite thing is to sit in the toy box or on the back of the couch

Nolan is always there to help with the little ones - so lucky he is here

Payton Riley Curry

Today at 7:47 am little Payton Riley Curry entered the world. She is so tiny and cute only weighing in at 6 lbs. 9 oz and 18 1/2 inches long. She looks like a little rose bud and has perfect features. Both Brook and Payton are doing great. When a baby is born by c-section they are so beautiful and not all squished and this is how she looks.
Here are a few pictures we took today at the hospital.

Nolan is one "great" big brother and is such a great helper

Busy Morning...

Mornings for me are usually very slow and I work at my own pace, but things are different for me for the next three weeks. This is how my morning has gone this morning:
  1. First wake up call came at 4:45 when Brook came in to tell me that they were on their way to the hospital
  2. Brea went to sleep on the couch and woke up at 5:30 so got up and put her in bed with me
  3. Went back to sleep until 7:00
  4. Got up and went to bathroom before babies woke up
  5. 7:15 Brea wakes up and comes to living room all smiles and happy
  6. 7:30 Hayden wakes up not sure of the strange face looking at him, but does not cry
  7. 7:45 Danielle calls to see if the baby is here yet
  8. 7:50 Mom calls to see if baby is here yet
  9. 8:00 change Hayden for the second time this time poopy
  10. 8:15 fix breakfast for the two little kids and feed them
  11. 8:30 fix oatmeal for me - first batch boiled over in microwave so had to clean that up and start another bowl full. Eat my breakfast and take my handful of pills.
  12. 9:00 Nolan wakes up and helps me get bath water ready for baths - bath both babies and get them dressed then fixes himself breakfast
  13. 9:30 showered and got dressed
  14. 10:00 Nolan gets in shower
  15. 10:17 called Elton - baby is here and both Brook and Payton are doing good
  16. 10:19 called Dick to tell him he is a new grandfather and to give him the particulars
  17. 10:34 text Danielle, Derek, Kelly & Laile with info on Payton
  18. 10:45 Danielle calls is going to dr today
  19. 11:00 fix snack for Hayden & Brea then feed them yogurt
  20. 11:15 Hayden goes down to nap and Nolan watches Brea while I get Hayden to sleep
  21. Finish getting ready for the day, take out tonight's dinner to thaw (Shephard's Pie)
  22. Work on the computer for a while and check the emails and blogging
  23. Brea wakes Hayden up at 12:20 so now I am busy with two little ones for the rest of the day
  24. Elton sends a picture of the baby and she is a keeper

The time is only 12:31 pm.

Any hooo the baby is Payton Riley Curry, 6 lbs. 9 oz., 18 1/2 inches long and was born at 7:47 this morning. We are anxious to get to the hospital to visit and see her but need to give Brook a little more time before all four of us venture in on her.

Will keep you posted as to how things are fairing out in Denver at the Curry household.

Dear Richard...

"HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RICHARD DEAR. HAPPY DAYS WILL COME TO YOU ALL YEAR. IF I HAD ONE WISH THEN IT WOULD BE. A HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU FROM ME."
This is hoping that your day is as special as you are. As I sit here thinking about the joy that you have brought into my life these past 19 years, my heart swells with pride as to the young man that you have grown into. Your parents taught you very deep and lasting values and hopefully now that you are on your own you will adhere to and cherish those teachings.
Remember the good name you were blessed with and keep that name sacred and clean from any corruption. Always do your best in everything that you set out to accomplish and you will be surprised at how easy life will be.
I have so many memories of you and want to share some with you this day.

This is the day you were blessed and named. You looked so adorable in the blessing outfit I made just for my sweet, special baby boy.

What a lucky boy your are!! You are a #1 boy in so many ways but best of all you are THE 1st Child, 1st Grandchild, 1st Great Grandchild and 1st Great Great Grandchild. What more could a boy ask for other than being totally spoiled rotten and that you are and then some...

Right from the beginning there was no one in your life but your grandpa. You and him were BFF's and still are. Where ever Grandpa went you were right behind him like a little shadow. My goodness, you even share the same name. What a perfect boy to carry on Grandpa's name.

Two cuties on an outing with Gramps and Grams.

What a hoot you were on our trip to Granby Lake in Colorado. You and Uncle Derek were cleaning the fish we caught that morning and all we dared let you have was a plastic knife.

We have watched you grow from a little boy going to school on your very first day to your graduation and then on to higher aspirations.

Happy Birthday, Richard. We are so glad you are our grandson. We love you dearly. Stay that sweet boy that has grown from an infant to a man. Have a great day

Goodbye Couches....

Mom and Dad were able to come and visit with us for five days. I just love to have my family come to see me. We try to go to places that they have not seen before. On one trip we were able to go to Promitory Point and see the re-enactment of the connection of the railways connecting the east and west coasts. Another time we went to Antelope Island and see the buffalos and another time we went to Hardware Ranch to see the elk.
This time we went again to Hardware Ranch and I think this will become our yearly visit. The day we chose to go was sunny and fairly warm. There were so many elk in the meadow and it was so fun to ride the sleigh through the herd.

It is alway fun when Mom and Dad come and I hate to see them leave. Mom was anxious to leave this morning and get her new couches into her home and I was sad to see my couches go down the road to her house. I could not think of anyone that would love them like I do than my Mom. Her and I have a thing for roses, must be an inherited thing. Goodbye beautiful couches I hope you love your new home.
